For the same diameter, Sch40 butt weld fitting has thicker walls and can withstand higher pressure than Sch10 fitting, but it is also heavier and more expensive.

Sch10 is sufficient for low-pressure water pipes; Sch40 is recommended for medium-pressure industrial piping.
